I Like You Review August 2019

I Like You is a dating platform that uses a simple algorithm to connect users together. With only over two years being in the business since its launch, it has built a member base of over five million users. It is available in 23 languages and can be accessed in all countries all over the world. The platform has faced negative feedback from its users, yet there are still members who are actively using the app. If you wish to find out if I Like You is worth exploring, read the full review below.

Scam Controversy of I Like You

There have been many negative reviews and complaints about I Like You. Its former members accuse it of having fake account owners that steal photos from real people. Reviews repeatedly say that a lot of members are unresponsive and that they usually receive chatbot-like messages.

Many are also complaining about the unfixed bugs of the full website and the mobile app since their last updates a year ago. They say that both are prone to crashes and unwanted, inappropriate redirects. A majority of those who have paid for a VIP upgrade also complain that they could not access the VIP features. Whenever they try to reach out to the company’s customer service, they hardly get a useful reply.

Registration Process

  • You can sign up via Facebook
  • Photos require approval before they go live
  • Uploading photos is required to use the site’s features
  • There is no verification required
I Like You Registration

Signing up on I Like You is a quick and easy process. You just need to fill out a basic personal information form that asks for your name, birth year, gender, city, email, and password. Once you’ve filled out everything, you can immediately have access to the dating site. However, in order to make use of all the features I Like You has to offer, you need to upload at least two photos. These photos are moderated and will undergo an approval process before they appear on your profile.

Dating Games

Besides using the search function, adding interesting users to your favorites list, and sending messages, I Like You offers three special features that let you connect to other users. They call these features ‘Dating Games’ because each feature can be looked at as a game of sorts. The three ‘Dating Games’ are:

I Like You Dating Games Like
I Like You Dating Games Rate
I Like You Dating Games Date

Like

Like is a roulette-type matching feature that shows you a photo of another user which you need to evaluate. There are two choices that you can click: Like or Skip. Clicking the Skip button does not do anything, except to show you the next profile. Clicking Like puts that particular member in your ‘Like list’ and also sends a notification to that member that you have liked his/her profile.

Rate

Rate shows you different photos of members with a number range of 1 to 10 above them. This game asks you to rate the photo you see with 1 being the lowest rating possible and 10 the highest. Your ratings can be seen by the member you rated. You are also able to see how other members rated you through the ‘Your Marks’ page found on the notifications tab.

Date

Similar with the two other Dating Games, Date shows you different photos of members. But instead of clicking like or rating the photo, you will be asked if you would want to date the particular member shown to you. You have a choice of ’No’, ‘Maybe’, and ‘Sure’. Clicking ‘Maybe’ and ‘Sure’ would send a notification to that particular member while clicking ‘No’ wouldn’t do anything.

Profile Information

  • You need to complete your profile to reveal profile information of others
  • At least two photos need to be uploaded to send messages
  • Profiles show how many likes a member have already received
  • Similar profile suggestions are at the bottom of every member's profile
I Like You Profile

Your profile only features a few details about you. This goes the same for other members. Besides the basic information about appearance and lifestyle, there is an about me headline and a section about your interests. The photo gallery is situated right below these details, with your profile picture displayed in large size and the other photos in thumbnails.

Profiles show how many likes a member have already received throughout his or her time being active on the site. There is also a button which lets you see who he or she liked on the dating site, but this is a VIP feature. There is likewise an option to link your I Like You profile to your Facebook account.

Mobile App

I Like You Mobile
  • Has the same features as the desktop version
  • App takes too long to load
  • Available to download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store
  • There are a lot of ads

I Like You’s mobile app is available to download for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. It has the same features as the website, but rather than having a header menu, the features are organized in a collapsible menu. The dating games also display one member at a time, in contrast with the belt-like arrangement of profiles on the desktop version.

The mobile app of I Like You is good for users on-the-go. However, the app has unfixed bugs that usually cause it to crash from time-to-time. For instance, whenever you click the ‘Activate VIP’ button, you get logged out of the app. Sometimes, the login fields are also faulty that you cannot input your credentials, which then makes you unable to log in on the app.

Design and Usability

The design of I Like You’s dating site and mobile app are meant to appeal to the younger audience. Its two contacting features, Search and Dating Games, can be found on the upper left side of the banner menu.

The ‘Search’ tab is a drop-down menu that further funnels down if you are looking for ‘People nearby’, ‘Top users’, ‘New users’, or if you’re interested in browsing all available member profiles. The ‘Dating Games’ tab is also a drop-down menu wherein the three unique contacting features of I Like You can be found.

On the upper right side of the web page, the notifications tab, VIP upgrade button, and ‘Account Settings’ can be found.

The mobile app has a cleaner design than its website counterpart. On the mobile app, the dating games display one member at a time, while the desktop version shows the users similar to a conveyor belt. This can be quite confusing especially for users who are not used to how the site works.

Real Life Review

“I recently found out about I Like You from my friend who’s been using the app to kill time when he’s bored. I sent a couple of likes, rated some profiles, and answered a number of ‘Would you date’ for about two weeks. I sent messages to very attractive members, but I did not receive any response. I also did not get many likes and good ratings in return. I’m not sure if it’s just because I Like You members don’t see me as attractive, or there are only a few active users on the site. Personally, I think I Like You is a good app to use to kill time with, but I don’t think it would do me any good when trying to find dates or even new friends.” - Mateo, 25, NYC

The platform seems to have suffered from bugs as a result of its recent upgrade. On the website, if you click all buttons that should take you to the VIP activation, the site either freezes or loads a blank page. Using the mobile app, you will be able to see the prices, but you’re automatically logged out of the app every time you click the “Activate VIP” button. The company has not released a statement yet regarding this matter.

Summary

Even with the technical matters and negative reviews that encircle I Like You, there are still people who use the website just for fun. Many are still actively sending likes and ratings even if they don’t get to see who has liked them back due to I Like You’s VIP upgrade failures. It is a good app to kill time, but with regard to using the site as a means to get a date, it seems like there are far better dating sites to use and enjoy.
